The Administrative Council (AC) which met here under the chairmanship of the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, approved the change in the nomenclature of the directorates of the Department of Social Welfare.
Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary, J&K and Nitishwar Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor attended the meeting.
The decision will rename the Mission Directorate, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS); Mission Leadership, Integrated Child Protection Program (ICPS); and State Resource Center for Women (SRCW) as Poshan Mission Directorate; Direction Mission Vatsalya; and Direction Mission Shakti, respectively.
The decision will streamline the implementation of various welfare schemes in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, bringing them into harmony with the new framework schemes of the Government of India. Accordingly, various programs of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, GoI will be redistributed among the three directorates.
From now on, Integrated Child Development Program (ICDS), Program for Adolescent Girls, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, National Nursery Program will be implemented by the leadership of Poshan Abhiyan, while Integrated Protection Services (ICPS) and Juvenile Services The Justice Act will be implemented by the Vatsalya Mission Directorate.
Likewise, the Shakti Mission Directorate will implement the programs including One Stop Centre/Women’s Helpline (181), Swadhar Greh, Widow Homes, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and other women’s welfare programs for the empowerment of women with a particular focus on gender responsive budgeting, research and support for working women.
Previously, directions were named after a single pattern that was dissonant with their scope of functionality. The new names signify the full range of activities/programmes implemented by the respective directorates and are more relevant to their operations, which will facilitate their implementation and monitoring.
