A government program will be launched in Sindh to provide financial support to journalists in the province and solve their problems.
The information to this effect was given on Sunday by the Minister of Information and Local Government of Sindh, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, as he addressed a meeting of officials from the Information Department at his home. .
He said the program for the well-being of journalists would be called the People’s Media Support Program and was planned according to the directives of the Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The Minister of Information explained that as part of the media support program, financial aid and health and life insurance would be provided to journalists and that their children’s school fees would also be paid.
He added that former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto had a particular desire to solve journalists ‘problems and the current PPP chairman also wanted journalists’ problems to be resolved as a matter of priority.
Shah reviewed the ongoing projects of the information department during the meeting and said that all sections of the department should improve their performance and most importantly, senior managers have the responsibility to make the department more active.
Stressing the need for the rapid completion of the development projects of the department, the Minister of Information instructed the Director of Planning and Development to ensure quality construction in all projects of the district offices of the Division of ‘Hyderabad.
He also asked the publicity director to pay the dues to the media organizations and settle the arrears as soon as possible. Shah issued instructions to ensure transparency and fair distribution of advertisements and said that no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
He asked those in charge of the information service to improve their performance and to strengthen the liaison with the media and organizations. He has also directed the filmmaker to make short documentaries and other music videos on development projects in the province. He said that the information service was of particular importance as it was like the spokesperson for the government and therefore all officials in the ministry should carry out their duties diligently.
Among the meeting attendees were Information Secretary Ijaz Hussain Baloch, Planning and Development Director Ghulam us Saqleen, Publishing Director Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Information Director Muhammad Saleem Khan, Press Information Director Aziz Ahmed Hakro, Administrative Director Syed Azeem Shah, Film Director Shabih Siddiqui, Deputy Administrative Director Muhammad Yusuf Kabooro and Section Officer Nazir Ahmed.
