It might seem difficult to get your hands on a PS5 now, but we’re here to help.
The good news is that the situation seems to be improving. Best Buy, Amazon, Target, and GameStop all restocked their PS5 inventory last week. These PS5 restockings appeared to be available for longer than usual, which could indicate that more people (instead of scalpers) are actually buying the PS5 game console.
Meanwhile, Amazonhappens in June, which begs the question of whether there will be another restocking of Amazon’s PS5 and whether other retailers will follow suit. We’ll have to wait to find out.

Why is it difficult to find a PS5?
Sony’s latest console is still hard to find seven months after its launch. Contributing to the difficulty is the fact that scalpers use robots — and the keep on going. Sony says it is aware of the problem and is finding a solution.
“We are working as hard as possible to improve this situation”, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan told Wired May 12. “We are seeing production increase over the summer and certainly in the second half of the year, and we hope to see some kind of return to normal in terms of the balance between supply and demand during this time. “
Here is a list of recent restockings to get an idea of when retailers will be getting more PS5s:
- Target, May 27: We’ve been waiting for weeks for Target to be replenished. Unfortunately, they went pretty quickly.
- Amazon, May 26: After almost a month without a PS5, Amazon has arrived with a big drop in disc consoles.
- Best Buy, May 23: PS5s were in stock at Best Buy, but only for a short time.
- PlayStation Direct, May 20: Sony’s PlayStation Direct site offers a unique way to manage replenishments, placing customers in a digital queue before making their inventory available. Find out how it works and why it might be your best bet to get a PS5 below.
- Walmart, May 20: Bigger retailers like Walmart are trying to stop bots from buying all of their stock, but that doesn’t seem to be working. One thing to remember with Walmart is that it will release inventory in waves, so it pays to keep refreshing.
How do I get a PS5 on PlayStation Direct?
The store with the most frequent PS5 restockings is still Playstation direct, where drops often take place in the afternoon and require people to queue for a chance to buy a console. If you don’t get one at a time, it’s still worth joining the queue, as some patient and lucky customers may receive Priority Access email directly from Sony. The company hasn’t provided full details on these PS Direct emails, but you must sign up for Sony marketing emails and have a PS Plus membership – and you must be signed in to your PSN account. If luck is on your side, there is a chance that Sony will send you an invitation to buy a PS5.
When you’re in a queue, you need to know how much time you have left before you get to the front of the queue. The shorter the better, but it is not a guarantee. To improve your odds, once you’re in a queue, share the link to your other devices like a mobile phone. Make sure that each device is not using the same internet address – for example, having your phone on its mobile plan while your computer is using your home Wi-Fi. This may improve your odds, as your other device may be placed in a different queue that moves at a faster pace. Even if you don’t get a PS5, as mentioned earlier, you can still get a pass to buy one on the next visit.
What are some tips for getting a PS5?
While big retailers like Walmart, GameStop, Amazon, Target, and Best Buy typically don’t give much notice of a restocking, your best chance at scoring a PS5 is to log in as soon as inventory drops. Even so, nothing is guaranteed, but there are ways to improve your odds.
First tip: don’t wait to see an alert for a PS5 inventory drop. Check out the links of major retailers for daily stock updates or even multiple times a day. (We’ve lined them up below.) If you’re having some PS5 availability, go for as many browsers and devices as possible. On a desktop computer, for example, open the retailer page in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Then do the same on your phone and tablet. The more devices and browsers, the better. It’s like with: The more you have, the better your chances of winning.
Second tip: Create accounts at the various retailers and make sure you are already logged in if you want to try and get a PS5. Make sure all of your shipping, billing, and payment information is up to date on any device you can buy on, whether it’s laptop, desktop or a phone. This makes verification much faster, which is crucial as retailer sites get bogged down quickly causing people to lose their chance to get a PS5.
