The next Pokémon TCG high end set Highlight of the VMAX, which will be released in December 2021 in Japan, was previously shrouded in mystery. Very little was known about how this set would appear to English speaking collectors and gamers until the Pokémon TCG revealed that their February 2022 set, Sword and Shield – Shining Stars, would contain a subset of 30 cards called the trainers gallery. However, the revelation this week of a shocking number of 100 Rare Secrets in Highlight of the VMAX has created confusion as to what will appear in Sword and Shield – Shining Stars. As speculation continues, let’s take a look at some of these rare secrets of Highlight of the VMAX.
And the rare secret trainers continue! (Note that Japanese ensembles consider Full Art Trainer supporters to be Secret Rare, while English ensembles count them in the numbered ensemble.) We’re talking about Bea Full Art, which is remarkable considering her Full Art des 2020s Sword and Shield – Live Tension was among the most sought-after pull-ups of all. It wasn’t as valuable as the Rainbow Rare Chonkachu, of course, but the Nessa and Bea cards often swapped places in the Top Five. We also get a Judge Full Art and a Swordward and Shieldbert Full Art. When these two release in English, especially the Swordward and the Shieldbert, I bet they will be very affordable in the secondary market. Something tells me that these two guys aren’t going to be anyone’s primary hunting card.
There are a lot of Trainer Supporters in Highlight of the VMAX, so I don’t see Bea ranking as high as she did in Live tension. Looking quickly, there are cards featuring Acerola, Galar Friends (with Marnie), Gloria, and Nessa. I think these will be the best Full Art Trainers around. Now, as far as we know, English language sets could split them up and spawn them in multiple expansions over the course of the year. Only time will tell how it will all work out.
