Mercer County District Attorney Angelo J. Onofri reported today that an online child exploitation investigation has resulted in the arrest of a Hamilton Township man.
Michael Magliozzo, 41, is charged with third degree possession of child pornography and second degree endangerment of the welfare of a child. The prosecutor’s office filed a motion to detain Magliozzo pending trial.
Detectives from the prosecutor’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit recently received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an individual in Mercer County was downloading child pornography. An investigation was opened and Magliozzo was identified as a subject. On Friday, February 25, 2022, detectives from the ICAC and the prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit executed a search warrant at Magliozzo’s home in Hamilton. He was detained without incident and several electronic devices were seized. A forensic scan of the devices revealed over 100 images of child pornography and additional images of a clothed girl. Magliozzo knew where the photos focused on the girl’s private areas. Detectives also located a backpack in the basement of the residence which contained two pairs of little girl’s underwear and women’s underwear.
Second-degree felonies are punishable by five to 10 years in state prison and a fine of up to $150,000. Third-degree felonies carry a sentence of three to five years in state prison and a fine of up to $15,000.
Prosecutor Onofri urged anyone with information about alleged inappropriate contact by strangers communicating with children via the Internet or possible sexual exploitation or abuse of children to contact his Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit at 609-989 -6568 or the New Jersey Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force tip line at 888-648-6007.
Even if charged, each defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a court.
